Vermont Employment Pathfinder launches on MyFutureVT

For over a year, Advance Vermont has collaborated with Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation (BDCC) to bring their new resource for jobseekers, Vermont Employment Pathfinder (VEP), to MyFutureVT. The tool officially opened to the public on Aug 26, 2024 at a launch event at the Old North End Community Center in Burlington.

Advance Vermont Executive Director Tom Cheney delivered remarks at the launch event, available to view below.

Overview of Vermont Employment Pathfinder

VEP is a web-based application that uses artificial intelligence to interview users, determining their level of experience with various skills and job tasks. In creating the tool, BDCC’s goal is to help Vermonters improve career outcomes and help Vermont employers recruit talent in today’s challenging workforce environment. It aims to shift the hiring approach in Vermont from looking solely at one’s experiences and job titles, to one that focuses on skills.

VEP also builds resumes based on the user’s skill profile and matches them with relevant education and employment opportunities.

“Vermont Employment Pathfinder adds a critical tool to the toolbox by helping Vermonters identify what skills they already have, how those skills connect to a career, and understand what education or training they need to meet their goals,” says Cheney.

Advance Vermont partnered with BDCC to bring VEP to a statewide audience by hosting it on MyFutureVT.

“Vermont Employment Pathfinder is a great resource for MyFutureVT users who want to broaden their understanding of how they fit into the Vermont workforce,” says Advance Vermont Director of Communications and MyFutureVT Marilyn Tagliavia. “Advance Vermont created MyFutureVT with the goal of empowering Vermonters with the information they need to take the next step in their education and career journey.

“One key part of that is ensuring that the resources we share are focused on, and accessible by all Vermonters at all different stages in their journeys — and that Vermonters can easily explore the information most relevant to them. Vermont Employment Pathfinder supports this effort by uniquely focusing on a skills-based approach. It can be difficult to understand what skills you have and how they might make you a great candidate for a seemingly unrelated new opportunity.”

Additionally, Vermont employers can get in touch with BDCC to register and view potential matches for their open positions. Candidates are anonymized and information accessible is standardized, helping to level the playing field of opportunity access across demographics.

Vermonters interested in signing up can do so at myfuturevt.org/vep — or learn more on the MyFutureVT blog.

For education and career professionals, demonstrations of VEP and MyFutureVT are available for your school or organization. Contact Alex Beck from BDCC Tom Cheney from Advance Vermont to set one up.
